Welcome to Tangochan, a vocab management tool I'm currently working on. I'm learning Japanese, but although I've found heaps of good sites for learning japanese I still needed some sort of tool to store and manage new vocab I come across daily. I want to be able to store it after looking it up in an online dictionary such as Jisho. I couldn't find anything that really suited me (although Tangorin comes close) so I started making my own tool in July 2010.
The idea behind Tangochan is to be able to store Japanese word (usually the kanji) and reading (usually hiragana) along with the english definition(s) and your own notes. This is so you can build up your own list of vocab that you can later easily refer to, review, follow links to example sentences or kanji lookups, play flash card games with, export to anki etc. There are many things that could be done but I'm not sure yet which way it will develop.
At the moment here's the idea:
- Register on Tangochan then login with remember me ticked.
- Drag the Tangochan bookmarklet (Tangochan It) to your browser's toolbar.
- Look up a word on jisho.
- Highlight the word, reading and definition (view screenshot) and press the Tangochan bookmarklet button to import it into Tangochan.
- Add your own notes or make admendments, tag the entry, then save the word.
- Review, revise, play with, manage your vocab on the Tangochan homepage.
Please register to get yourself a login and start using Tangochan.
Please visit the tangochan page on facebook for updates on the project and feel free to post any ideas or suggestions you have on the wall or in a forum topic. Don't forget to check out my other facebook page - best links for learning japanese also.
Bookmarklet. Drag this link: Tangochan It to your browser's toolbar or menu.
